According to a recent update by Microsoft, the company will stop issuing security updates to smartphones running windows 10 mobile on December 10th, 2019. Microsoft has advised the mobile users to switch to Android and iPhone.
There is an amendment in the operating system Lifecycle FAQ on January 14 which states:
“The end of support date applies to all Windows 10 Mobile products, including Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise. Windows 10 Mobile users will no longer be eligible to receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free.”
If go scroll through the new updated FAQ, under “What should Windows 10 Mobile customers do now?” you will find what Microsoft has to say about the announcement. According to the Giant firm “The customers should move to that to a supported Android or iOS device.”
Windows 10 Mobile users has stopped getting security updates in October 2017 with the version 1709. Although the company has been issuing the security updates for some of the staunch user Windows 10 mobile users.
According to a series of tweets, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President in the Operating Systems Group Joe Belfiore revealed the system would just fix bugs and do security updates for existing users. So finally, it’s time for windows 10 mobile users to migrate to some other operating system.
Without the updates, there might be risk of threat to Windows 10 mobile users. Their personal information would be exposed to virus attack. So, it is highly recommended to switch to Android or iPhone. Windows 10 Mobile users who continue to use Windows mobile devices will put themselves at a higher risk to security threats.
For Windows 10 Mobile users now looking to make the switch to Android or iOS devices, we’d recommend the OnePlus 6T, Samsung Galaxy S9, or Google Pixel 3for Android phones. As for iPhones, you have your pick of the litter between the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS.
Microsoft added that some features like photo uploads and ‘restoring a device from an existing device backup’ may continue to work up to one year after it ends support for Windows 10 Mobile.
One of the reasons why company has come to this conclusion is because of the lack of apps on the mobile platform.

He further added, ‘Of course, we’ll continue to support the platform. bug fixes, security updates, etc. But building new features/hardware aren’t the focus’.
The company is now more focused on multi device and cloud technologies that do not involve windows. Phones affected by the withdrawal include the Microsoft Lumia 640, 640 XL and the Lumia 535. There is also a down of 0.3 percent in the market share by the end of Microsoft’s third financial quarter. This marks an end to the legacy of windows mobile phones.
