Mukesh Ambani has finally revealed the jio GigaFiber plans to the shareholders and said that the effort will involve the group’s unlisted businesses Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. And Reliance Retail Ltd.
Ambani revealed that the Jio GigaFiber plans will start from Rs. 700 per month which is quite on the affordable side. Till now Jio GigaFiber has received over 15 Million Pre-registrations from 1,600 cities.
The Reliance Group has planned to reach up to 15 million business enterprises and 20 million homes.
It is just three years since the launch of Jio, and it has become the number one operator in terms of revenue and has the second-largest user base.
Jio GigaFiber is indeed a much-awaited service. It will start commercially from Sept 5 which is not so far. As we already mentioned, plans will start from Rs. 700 per month and will go up to Rs. 10,000 per month depending upon the usage and type. The plans will combine wired broadband, Television content, landline calls and also smart solutions like video conferencing and multiplayer gaming.
On 42ndAGM(Annual General Meeting) Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd said, “We will start this service commercially from 5 September at rates which are one-tenth compared to global rates”.
Ambani further added, “Customers opting for the one-year plan for Jio GigaFiber will even get an HD 4K LED television and a 4K set-top box free. We are calling this the Jio GigaFiber welcome offer”.
The Jio GigaFiber will bring a complete change in the internet experience. It will provide support to a mixed reality which will enable anyone to experience high-speed internet, super HD entertainment, HD video calling in any part of India.
At the last Annual General Meeting held in July 2018, Mukesh Ambani had announced that Jio GigaFiber will be the largest greenfield broadband framework worldwide. This year, the company has planned to introduce the service in 1,600 cities in India.
Registrations had already started in August last year for Jio GigaFiber. The company said that it would buy stakes in Den Networks Ltd and Hathway Cable and Datacom Ltd for Rs. 5,230 crores.
Jio said these investments will boost the Jio GigaFiber service and plans to uplift 27,000 local cable operators aligned with Den and Hathway through superior back-end infrastructure and digital infrastructure.
Ambani Said, “Our local cable operator partners will have access to GigaFiber homes and can earn revenue from broadcast services”.
There is a huge space for growth in the wired broadband market because there were only 18.45 million wired broadband users at the end of May as compared to 562.52 million wireless users as per the data showed by the telecom regulator.
The government’s digital communication policy which was announced in May 2018, will also boost the Jio GigaFiber on a large scale. It has targeted to attract approx. $100 billion in digital communications. It also includes goals like universal broadband for all, deployment of 5 million public Wi-Fi hotspots by the year 2024 and 10 million in 2024 through a National Broadband Mission.
