Microsoft recently announced the launch of much awaited Windows 10 this summer in 190 countries. While yesterday they also said to be offering Free Windows 10 Upgrade to Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 users. This includes even the users who are using Pirated Windows copies. But seems like scenario has been changed.
In the fresh report, Microsoft said “Pirates will not get Genuine Windows 10 upgrade”. What does this means?
Well, it means that although the pirates will be able to upgrade their Windows 7 and 8 computers to Windows 10, but that wont be Genuine License. While on other hand, genuine users will be upgraded to Genuine licensed Windows 10 for free. Now the question is, although Pirates will not get genuine license, what is the drawback? Most probably, Microsoft will provide the same 30-Days trail OS. Once it is expired, they wont be able to log-in to their PCs and their PCs will always be on high risk threat.
This is what Microsoft has to say about the same:
“We have always been committed to ensuring that customers have the best Windows experience possible. With Windows 10, although non-Genuine PCs may be able to upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade will not change the genuine state of the license.
Non-Genuine Windows is not published by Microsoft. It is not properly licensed, or supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner. If a device was considered non-genuine or mislicensed prior to the upgrade, that device will continue to be considered non-genuine or mislicensed after the upgrade.
According to industry experts, use of pirated software, including Non-Genuine Windows, results in a higher risk of malware, fraud (identity theft, credit card theft, etc), public exposure of your personal information, and a higher risk for poor performance or feature malfunctions.”
Now that sounds fair. If a genuine Windows users is paying to get all new features and updates on their system, and the same benefits will be offered for free to other users, it may hurt License buyers. Microsoft wanted to do this to increase their user data base but it may go wrong as well. Genuine users will become Pirates instead of paying. What do you think about this ?
