Update Sony Xperia SOLA to Android 4.4 Kitkat with CyanogenMod 11

Sony Xperia SOLA comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3 OS and offer you ICS update. But there is no official news about Kitkat ROM. There is no chance that Sony might offer an Android Kitkat 4.4 update for the same. But this is possible through custom installation. You can download and run the latest Android 4.4 Firmware on Sony Xperia Sola and get the new interface.

This custom rom has all features of Kitkat rom and works really well. The procedure is simple here. This rom has a new updated kernel and offers CM11 for Xperia SOLA. Wi-Fi tethering is improved with enhanced audio output also. The rom also adds Transparent bar in the device with lock screen widgets. Before going ahead with the final installation check out the requirements. This will help you to get your data back in case of any issue.

Pre – Requirement:

  • The process will flash the existing phone image. So don’t go ahead with the same without taking data backup. Copy data somewhere. Copy everything the contacts, images, etc. You can use a data backup tool for the same.
  • You can enable usb debugging from the settings panel. It is located inside Application > Development. Just turn the same on.
  • Before installation you must checkout the phone battery backup. Ensure that you have maximum battery left. Poor battery can affect the process.
  • We are going to install a custom rom firmware. So it is necessary that your phone is rooted. If the boot loader is locked you cannot install this rom. You have to root it. If you are not user then install Root checker app and verify the same.
  • Remember that those have network locked mode, skip this firmware installation. This rom will not work on these devices.
  • Download CyanogenMod 11
  • Download Google Apps

Installation Process:

  • Copy CyanogenMod 11 & Google Apps in the sd card of Xperia Sola.
  • The second step is to enter Fastboot mode. For that you have to first turn off the device. Then hold the power down + volume up. The phone will boot in fast boot. Here when the device is not rooted or when the boot loader is locked this process will not work.
  • Leave the phone connected with pc. Launch CMD from your system. In that type the following command :- fast boot flash boot boot.img.
  • Wait back until you get a finished message on the screen.
  • Once the message appears disconnect the mobile phone. You can use the volume down key for the same.
  • Now to save the existing copy of your os you can go in backup and restore and select backup. This will backup the entire rom. This will help you to restore the rom if there is any issue.
  • The next step is to wipe data. Choose wipe data and wipe cache partition. Then select wipe dalvik cache.
  • You have to now install CyanogenMod 11. Select Install zip from sd card. Choose the zip file that you had copied in the phone and the initiate the installation.
  • Do the same for Google Apps package also.
  • Once the process is over restart your phone and done. The hone will boot with the new Kitkat rom.
