Along with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung has also launched a new device called ‘Samsung Dex’. It is a docking device that turns your Samsung smartphone into a Desktop computer. Just like Microsoft Continuum, may be. Once you connect your Galaxy S8 or S8+ into Dex dock which is connected to a big screen, it turns into an Android-based computer where you can not only use full sized physical computer and mouse but also use Microsoft Office, watch Videos, browse internet, do multitasking and lots more.
Samsung Dex comes with 2 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, Bluetooth and built-in cooling Fan to keep your phones cool. Once Dex is activated, you can launch multiple windows on your big screen monitor for comfortable multitasking. Simultaneously you can reply to your phone’s messages or make/pickup calls. Dex also keeps charging your phone so you don’t run out of the battery.
That’s not all. Samsung Dex also supports VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) solutions such as Citrix Receiver, VMware Horizon Client and Amazon WorkSpaces which means you can also use Virtual desktops inside your Android-based desktop UI, such as Windows 10. Dex is compatible with a wide range of applications such as Acrobat reader, Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop Mix, YouTube, Hancom Office, Microsoft Office, and more.
Samsung Dex will go on sale along with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, that is April 21st. Here is what Injong Rhee, CTO of Samsung Mobile Communications Business has to regarding Samsung Dex:
