Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is one of the best budget tablets in the market. But Samsung has stopped providing any new software updates for the same. Until now we had not received any major updates on the same. So this is a big disappointment. People are still the old ROM which is limited to certain features. But now you don’t have to worry. You can have Kit Kat 4.4 update on your existing tablet. You will get many advance features with the same.
Remember that the firmware setup which I am providing below is not official. It is a Custom Rom. This will have certain limitation. Also this will void the tablet warranty. So you have to go ahead with your own risk. Officially there is no news that in future Samsung is ever going to give us Kit Kat on Tab 2.Before moving ahead I want to you read the requirements mentioned below. This is for you to remain on the safer side.
Pre-Requirements:
Remember that installing Custom ROMs on any Android device required rooting because you are going to overwrite the system rom. If you had done this already then I will recommend you to use tool like Titanium Backup Pro to take a full phone backup. If you don’t like this rom you can restore the old settings back easily.
- Enable Usb debugging. The settings are located inside Settings > Applications > Development >
- Your phone must have maximum battery left. It must be above 70%. Don’t go ahead with the process if battery is low.
- Install Rom Manager App from Google Play.
- Download Android 4.4 KitKat Package and Google Apps Package, keep them on your desktop.
- Keep a SD card ready with you. It must have more than 400MB space left in the same.
Remember that this process void the phone warranty. And I am not giving you official rom. It is a custom one based on Android 4.4 Kitkat.
Installation Process:
- Connect the Galaxy Tab to your pc and then copy Download Kit Kat Android Package and Google Apps package in the external storage. That is in the memory card. This is two zip files. Do not put them in a folder.
- Once done you will have to boot your device in recovery mode. You can do that through Rom Manager Application.
- Or you can also use the manual method. Turn of the tablet first. Then hold the volume UP + Home key + Power for some time. The tab will boot in recovery mode.
- If you find this complicated then launch Rom Manager app and choose boot in Recovery.
- Once the tablet enters in recovery mode you have to select Wipe Data first. This will wipe out the internal storage. Then choose Wipe Cache.
- From the main screen choose Install zip from SD Card.
- One by one select the zip packages. First select Kit Kat Android Package. The process is a bit time consuming. Let it run in the background.
- The second zip is Google Apps package. Select it and complete the setup.
- Now once everything is done you have to reboot the tablet. The new Kitkat OS is installed on your tablet.
