Google Nexus 5 has already received the latest Android Kitkat 4.4.3 update. But those who had rooted their phone and using custom rom will not get this OTA update. So here you can simply use my method to add the new Kitkat 4.4.3 update on your device. Nexus 5 is a good android phone that add a more space to work and to fulfill your social needs. It is also enough for multimedia and gaming stuff. The phone is having a amazing design and it also looks great. The phone has a larger screen this time. The size of screen lies around 4.95 inches where you get 1080 x 1920 px maximum resolution. Being a True HD IPS+ screen you get great clarity on the same. To add a bit durability on the screen the display is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by Quad Core Snapdragon 800 (Krait 400) processor clocked at 2.3Ghz. And further a Adreno 330 gpu to deliver amazing gaming output. It has a 2GB ram and comes in 16 and 32GB storage solution.

So here we are going to test the  Kitkat 4.4.3 rom on this powerful device. We are going to install this through a custom recovery. My process is effective for those who already have TWRP recovery installed on their phone.

Nexus 5 Kitkat 4.4.3

Requirements:

  • If you had already received the Kitkat update then skip this guide. The process consist of rooting and installing custom recovery through which the phone warranty is gone.
  • Use a good backup software and backup your data. Because after the process the storage is wiped out.
  • Tap on the settings and then Application. Then go in Development and tap on USB debugging.
  • Download Fastboot.zip. This include TWRP Recovery image.
  • Download Nexus 5 USB drivers.
  • Download and update latest ADB files on your system before moving ahead.
  • Use the Root checker app and verify that your phone is rooted. Unless this process will not work.

Installation Process:

  • Extract the content of ADB in a folder on your desktop.
  • Extract the content of Fastboot.zip in the same folder.
  • Rename the folder as android and in the folder you can find TWRP image file.  We are going to go ahead with unlocking the fastboot for which we need adb. Just rename the TWRP image file to something simple so that you can use in the command line. Like nexusrecovery.image.
  • Go in Nexus 5 and tap on settings. In that tap on developer options and enable usb debugging.
  • Now we have to restart the phone in boot loader mode. For that you have to switch off the device first. Then use the volume up + volume down + power button at the same time. The device will start in boot loader mode.
  • The next thing you have to do is using a usb cable connect the device to your pc and leave it.
  • You might get popup for pre-loader driver. This appear when adb drivers are missing.
  • Once done with the driver stuff you have to go in the android folder on your desktop. Home Shift + right click and launch cmd.
  • Type fastboot devices in the cmd. It will detect your mobile phone and if that then the usb is missing.
  • Now type Fastboot oem unlock.
  • Once done we are going to flash the TWRP recovery on the phone through same.
  • Now type Fastboot flash recovery nexusrecovery.img  and then hit enter.
  • Now the device will boot in TWRP recovery. You have to choose reboot here and then choose system which will root the phone.

Restart the phone and you are done.
