Microsoft had earlier released a statement that they will provide a free one year subscription of the new Windows 10 to all the genuine, non genuine users using Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 . But now Microsoft has released another statement regarding the confusion of the Windows 10 update stating. The reports says:
“While our free offer to upgrade to Windows 10 will not apply to Non-Genuine Windows devices, and as we’ve always done, we will continue to offer Windows 10 to customers running devices in a Non-Genuine state.”
This means that only the currently genuine users will be able to avail the benefit of a genuine windows 10 update. The non genuine users will be allowed to update to windows 10 but that won’t make their subscription genuine. Their would be some watermark as well as recurring reminders saying Windows is not Genuine.
So if you have a non-genuine version of Windows you will be allowed to upgrade to Windows 10 but that won’t make your Windows genuine and that will not change the genuine state of license. This is how windows is working even right now. The only change that will occur with this update is that windows will be more easily available for download.
