Amazon is up with their latest update of Fire OS which is based on Android for all their phone’s tablets and other Fire devices. Amazon has released the first developer preview of Fire OS 5 which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop today. Currently Amazon devices are running and come with Fire OS 4 which is based on Android KitKat OS 4.4.
The developer preview is available for download and competes with Android M developer’s preview which was released a few days back. Amazon had released Fire OS 4 in May, by the time Google had released Lollipop OS. It is certain that by the time Fire OS 5 will be released Android M will already be out on devices.
The Fire OS 4 was based on Android 4.4 and thus a number of Android apps which were developed for Lollipop 5.0 didn’t work well on Amazon devices. Hoping, that this issue will be resolved with the new Fire OS update.
The developer preview is now available for developers and will run on Fire HD 6 or Fire HD 7 tablet. So developers can run their apps on the OS and make sure that their apps are compatible and work fine without any lags ON the new OS.
Also great news for developers, Amazon has updated their App Testing Service which now also allows developers to check whether their apps are compatible with the OS directly through a Developer Portal homepage, so now developers don’t need to update to the developer preview and flash their device.
