Each time when Google introduce a new Android OS they try to give something new. Google just don’t give an UI or some kind of easy navigation feature. It is on the other hand trying to innovate a mobile platform and make it more productive for others. So here will be talking about the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. This one is out in the market and Nexus 5 devices are getting the update for free. It is a major update that adds the new Material design and lots of amazing features. You can check the list of Top 20 Features here.
am sure there would be lots of people desperately waiting to have this update for their phone. But there is a bad news. Android 5.0 Lollipop is designed to work on 64bit architecture. So if your high end Smartphone does not own that architecture then you won’t be getting the update. And if you are planning to get a new phone then check that it will get Android 5.0 Lollipop or not. Here is the list of phones scheduled for Lollipop Update. If not then spending a bit more amount will surely reward you in future.
There are lots of cool things about Android 5.0 Lollipop that we will be discussing here and we will find out why this OS is so much better. A few good things that you can find in this new OS actually starts with its all new UI. Very unique and something refreshing, which really matters and most of us were looking for change in Android UI. The notification is lot more improved with better animation. You get an option to create different user account in that. You can limit access to your apps and files through this. Performance wise it is good but can get heavy if your mobile hardware is not new.
The things that I did not like much in this are that sometime it gets very overcrowded. I am talking about the background apps here. Battery draining issue is noticed in some phone. Anyway, let’s have a deep look at all these aspects in this Review.
Compatibility:
Android 5.0 Lollipop has a major criticization because of device compatibility. That matters a lot I think. As a new OS and it is based on 64bit architecture you won’t be able to use the same much on an old hardware. So if you had just recently bought a high end phone and it is not having 64bit hardware then it is very hard for you to get lollipop update. I do not know why Google choose 64bit hardware for this OS. They must have continued with the old ones. It appears like Google is trying to push Android performance much ahead that is going on right now in the market.
Material Design:
Google name the new UI of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS as a Material Design. This is not just a UI but a kind of new layout which really matters a lot. And this new design is surely going to affect the output of various apps and games. Developers have to work a lot to make their app compatible to this new Material Design if they want to give a rich UI to users. However, it is a fresh and something new, I like it. Really awesome. The material design brings various android platforms to one place such as syncing with pc, TV or with a media server etc. It is very easy to navigate and find things in it.
Most of the things are upgraded because of this new Material Design in Android 5.0 Lollipop. The OS looks more colorful. It does not put much impact on the multimedia part. But from visual point of view it is a great option. You can just add various apps as per your need on the same. All Google Apps are compatible and updated to this new a Material design. App compatibility here plays an important role and this also matters. Because if an app is not easy to use and does not has an effective UI then users won’t be at all please. With that it is also essential that the app performance does not degrade.
Furthermore, Background apps appear in the form of falling card animation which looks amazing. I am sure you will be fascinated with this new UI. One of the major part of Android 5.0 Lollipop UI also deals with Motion. That refers to the transition and to the visual animation. New devices are loaded with more sensitive sensors which actually matters and makes motion a lot more effective.
The User Interface:
When it comes to Android 5.0 Lollipop, then the Material design and the UI are two different things. That is because the UI is something that will let you understand how the entire Os actually works. While Material Design is actually the layout or the base on which the UI is designed. It is very important on the performance part.
At first impression you will surely be happy using the phone. The UI here is not very tough. Most of the time a new UI means confusion for the users. But that is not the case with Lollipop. A lot of improvement has been done to make android more better and more productive, which really matters a lot. The design is clean, typography is good and also widgets are available to make things easy and effective for usage. For example, from the lock screen you can open search by swiping to the right or you can start the camera by swiping form the left. You will see an animation in the form of large bubble.
There is animation with gestures that makes Android 5.0 Lollipop OS a bit unique OS. The app menu this time holds a white background instead of transparent. That lets you to find app more easily. It is just like a sheet of paper where all app icons are kept. App scrolling is very fast.
The notification might look loaded up with many things but Google hast tried to keep it clean. You can expand the same to open it more and see more settings on it. You can just go in the settings instantly and make changes. All notification related to your messages, app notification, emails, etc comes in this new notification panel. And this is like popping up from the bottom. You can see them in the lock screen also. Here everything looks like specifically focused so that you won’t be confused in finding out stuff. Most of the Google Apps in Android 5.0 Lollipop OS got a new kind of makeover. It is digitized and amazing to use.
First time Setup:
When you turn on the phone first time or when you run factory reset, an initial setup starts that ask you to configure the phone as per your need. In Android 5.0 Lollipop OS this thing is very fast and straight forward. While in older version this was poorly designed. You can choose a language, add your WiFi password and sync your mail accounts. And then it is done.
The OS comes with various options to further customize your device as per your need. But here updates are huge. Like the Gmail app update, or any other is big due to Android 5.0 Lollipop OS UI. There will be obviously some addition that will make app heavy. A good thing here is Google does not load the OS with too many apps. You can get a few of them and you remove the one that you don’t want any more.
Performance:
Android 5.0 Lollipop OS will be a very promising OS for high end devices. It is going to give them good output. Here old apps might have some problem with the same. But somehow Android 5.0 Lollipop OS will manage that also. Battery is another thing that needs more optimization and without that using an OS is a hard thing. There are easy popup alerts that can be turned off if you don’t have. These alerts will give you information on your existing notification.
You can just block sensitive notification if you want to avoid anyone seeing that. Gaming output is great here. And that is because of this high end hardware. 64bit hardware on the OS makes it very easy to use and also it boot the app output if things are done properly. It really matters to have a good optimization so that the battery life is not reduced or cause any problem. Android 5.0 Lollipop also has some great option to keep your data private. Like encryption.
Conclusion:
In this Review we tried to see all the aspects of Android 5.0 Lollipop where you are having a great UI and you are also having some nice features that plays important role. Somehow Android 5.0 Lollipop is bit heavy on RAM usage. And the processor is not much affected due to its 64bit hardware. For such Os you must have RAM more than 2GB. I do not think 3 GB is still enough for this. When you load HD games, things might lag in the device. One thing you can do is go in the customization part and turn of things that are not really needed. So that you won’t face much problem while using it. I am sure manufacturer has to work really hard to optimize this Os on the basis of their device model.
