At the Galaxy Unpacked 2015 today, Samsung launched two of their new powerful smartphones (phablets) including one the Flagship Galaxy Note 5 and second, is the bigger variant of last year’s flagship Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Both these devices are really amazing and are ready to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6s. Also known as world’s first ever Dual Edge display smartphone has not just got bigger, but also Smarter. Let’s take a detailed look at the Galaxy S6 Edge+
Display:
The new Galaxy S6 Edge+ sports a huge 5.7 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved dual edge display. The screen size and type is exactly same as Note 5. It offer maximum 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution with 518 ppi pixel density. The screen appears already amazing on S6 Edge, but not it looks beautiful.
Software / OS:
Both devices launched today including Galaxy S6 Edge+ are running the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It has the layer of Samsung’s own Touchwiz UI bringing some more new features.
Talking about features, Samsung has brought us a “People Edge”. What is it? Well it puts a tab on your home screen edge where you can access your favorite contacts, or i can say Most used contacts in a single tap. Another impressive feature is named as “Apps Edge”. Well as its name says, you have a list of quick-launch apps on another edge. Just swipe the edge and you will get the list of all your most or recently used app.
The Apps Edge make switching apps much more easier than before. No matter in which app you are, simply swap and get your recent apps.
Design:
As per design, it is exactly similar to its predecessor, apart from the screen size. However, that increases it by 12mm in length and 5mm in width, but it is just slightly thinner to original S6 Edge measuring 6.9mm which was 7.0mm earlier. Rest all remains the same including Power/unlock button on right, Volume rockers on left and Speaker & headphone jack placed at bottom.
Processing Power:
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is a powerhouse. It is running on 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 SoC with four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz along with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM that lets you do anything you want on the phone comfortably. No matter how many apps you run in the background, processing power is quite enough to offer you smooth performance and faster multitasking.
As per storage, S6 Edge Plus comes in two variants, 32GB and 64GB variants. Although Samsung didn’t made any official announcement about 128GB variant, the official Websites shows both Galaxy Note 5 as well as Galaxy S6 Edge+ in 128GB variant also.
You will have to choose the storage wisely because Edge+ has no expandable memory slot.
Camera:
Not just in power, S6 Edge Plus is also as good in photography also. It sports a 16 Megapixel primary camera with LED Flash, OIS and f/1.9 aperture that not just let you capture stunning pictures but also 4K (UHD) videos. While at the front facing we get a 5 Megapixel Selfie shooter with f/1.9 aperture. You may now have the best profile picture on your social networks 🙂
That’s not all. We already know Samsung is one of the best manufacturer to bring us amazing new Camera features with each of its flagship. So, there are many improvements and new features in the camera. One of which is Live Video Streaming right from your camera. Yes, you can show up live videos to your friends or family instantly. As per privacy, you get several options such as making the video private or invite-only session. You can also pull out the video url and share it with selective people.
Connectivity & Battery:
Being a Flagship, S6 Edge+ supports all major connectivity options including 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2 LE & apt-X and NFC. There is also MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) support used by Samsung Pay along with NFC.
Samsung has powered up Edge+ with non removable 3000mAh battery with Fast Charging. Samsung has worked really hard to improve the charging support. The phone now gets full in 90 minutes on wired, and in 120 minutes on wireless charging.
Keyboard Covers:
Samsung has launched a long list of accessories for both Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ that includes an all new Keyboard Covers. This is a physical qwerty Blackberry type keyboards that can be attached with the phone. I dont find it very useful but could be helpful for those who are not frequent in touch typing.
Price:
As of now, only US prices has been announced which is as follows. 32GB variant of Galaxy S6 Edge+ will cost $814.99 (Rs. 53,200 approx), while the 64GB variant will cost $914.99 (Rs. 59,700 approx). We will update the prices for other regions very soon.
Availability:
The new Galaxy S6 Edge+ will start shipping from August 21st, only in US. Dont forget to book one for you as Pre-order page is already live from today itself. Samsung will soon ship the phone for other countries also. Users will get four different color choices for Edge+, i.e. White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium.
