Yes we know that the Nokia has already launched the Nokia 6, but they’ve again launched a new version of it, that’s Nokia 6 (2018). There is a lot to like about this one, so read on to know about the new things up the sleeve.
The build quality of last year’s Nokia 6 is something we’ve really like, this year is Nokia improved it too. They retained the excellent build quality along with the 6000-series Aluminum but they’ve added some nice little refinements. The camera and rear mounted fingerprint sensor now have a nice little accent trim, the black version gets a gold trim around the edges while the white versions gets copper one. The contrasting colors will remind you of the camera ring around the Xiaomi’s Mi Mix2. It’s nice to see the HMD Global to stick to their strength and at the same time not get kind of complacent and still work on refining things.
To the front we’ve got a 5.5’-screen, still an IPS LCD panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution covered with Gorilla Glass display, and sorry this is not an 18:9 screen which may disappoint few users. But Nokia has increased the screen-to-body ratio of the Nokia 6 2018, with thinner bezels and no capacitive keys, so this time it’s on-screen. Design changes are minor, under the hood is where the major differences are. Despite being powered by Snapdragon 430-chip the previous Nokia-6 is a snappy little device to its weight.
In 2018 they’ve got Snapdragon 630 to power the current generation Nokia 6, it will be excited to see how much HMD Global has managed to get out of this one. The Snapdragon is an Octa-Core chip clocked in at 2.2 Gigahertz with Adreno 508 for graphic duties, so this device is expected to be quite fast and snappy in day-to-day usage as well as intense tasks. This Nokia 6 also comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, there’s also a micro SD card slot for expandability up to 128GB and powering all this is still the 3000mAH battery with support for QuickCharge 3.0 through USB type-C port.
Now coming to the camera department, there isn’t much here, except a few software tweaks that have been ported over from last year’s Nokia 8. Same as the last year’s model its 16-mp sensor with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and a dual-tone dual LED flash. What new here is the support for OZO sound which was really adored in the Nokia 8. The ‘Bothie’ feature as well as dual-video recording also available here, so you can shoot from both the rear and front cameras at once. The front camera is identical to last year’s edition with the front camera is 8-mp f/2.2 aperture.
This second generation of Nokia 6 sadly comes with Android Nougat out-of-the-box, this is awkward as the Nokia 8 got the OREO update way back in November, even the last year’s Nokia 6 has a Beta Oreo update already so it is a really weird to see HMD Global release a 2018 edition phone with Nougat. We hope that it gets the update real quick, as the HMD Global so far has excellent track record for regular updates and security patches even for the cheapest phone at their stable.
Price can be a factor with this phone. in China Nokia 6 32GB variant was launched for some 14,600/- Indian rupees and the 64GB was for 16,500/- Indian rupees. Nokia has always priced their devices pretty near or lower than their Chinese prices in India. At these prices it kind of might go head-to-head with Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 Plus, the top variant is likely priced to be around 13,000/- rupees, but the Nokia has advantage in the processor department. This competition is good for buyers as this will give you better choices in terms of brand quality and spec sheets. We’ll surely wait for it.
