Francois Girard was born on the 12th of January 1963 in St.Felicien, Quebec. At the beginning of his career, he was working as a video artist. The first movie debut that he made was in 1990 with Cargo.

Several years later, he was engaged as a co-writer with Don McKellar. This time the writer made his way to the global film market with Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould.
