FlipKart, India’s number one E-commerce website has come up with something very interesting. All FlipKart app users can now be able to search a product based on an image. FlipKart has come up with new Image Search feature, like any dress or apparel on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or any other place. Now you can search for similar products in color and design using Image Search by uploading the pic on your FlipKart app. The feature is added keeping in mind the fashion section of the website and this was revealed by FlipKart via an email statement.
The Application can be downloaded from Play Store or you will receive an auto-update if you already have the app installed even though this Image search feature is still in its testing phase it is out for users.
Punit Soni, FlipKart’s chief Product officer stated about the feature saying, “Discovering a fashion product online varies from user to user and is more complex as compared to other categories. A lot of fashion purchase decisions are influenced by similar products seen by users. The image search feature provides a way to find similar products on Flipkart as well as reduces the search/browsing time, making the overall product discovery and shopping experience simple. This is in line with our ambition to create a very intuitive thoughtful mobile experience that is universally accessible to everybody, regardless of whether they use text or visuals to communicate with us.”
Using Image Search feature on FlipKart you can click a picture of any fashion apparel, you can also upload any other image which you have saved of any model wearing a dress or any dress which you like. You have to upload the picture on the app and then the feature will provide a catalog of exact or similar apparels based on color, pattern, style and design. It will find similar clothes which are available on FlipKart for you. Image Search feature was developed for FlipKart app for Android Smartphones because FlipKart has 75% of its users accessing it from smartphones.
This addition is surely an innovative step in attracting customers to search and buy what they want without any explanation and just a single picture.
FlipKart has revealed that in the coming time the feature will be further updated, they will introduce direct camera in the app and also bring offline browsing feature. There is a lot more coming, after such a big remarkable step by the company.
