WhatsApp has finally added Video Calling support to its Beta messenger. Available as of now for only Android Beta testers, you can now also make Video calls right away from your WhatsApp. No more need for any separate video calling app.
If you are WhatsApp Beta user, update the app to latest version from PlayStore. It should be version 2.16.316 or above. Also, to make video calls to any contact, he must too be running on v2.16.316 and must be Beta user. If not yet, you can sign up for Beta Program from here.
Making video calls from WhatsApp is pretty simple. Just open chat window and tap the call icon on the top. You now get two options that includes Voice call and Video call. Just tap the video call. You can also make video calls from WhatsApp Call screen as shown in the screenshot.
If your contact is not the beta tester, you will get an error saying “Couldn’t place call. Recipient (name) needs to update WhatsApp to receive video calls” OR “Couldn’t place call. Recipient (name) is using a phone that doesn’t support video calls.”
