After being in rumors and leaks, Samsung has finally revealed their next Flagship phablet, Galaxy Note 5. at the Unpacked 2015 today along with Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The new Galaxy Note 5 is completely new in Design with all new S-Pen and its drawer. It carries the same display size and quite frankly, very similar hardware to latest year’s Galaxy Note 4. Let’s check out the new device in detail.
Display:
As said, the new Galaxy Note 5 is very similar to Note 4 in hardware, it carries the same sized display. It is 5.7 inch QHD Super-Amoled displays offering 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution with 515 ppi pixel density. It is sharper, Brighter and truly amazing. You will enjoy watching movies or Pictures and even HD Games. The new improve S-Pen makes the experience even better on this screen. We will talk about the S-Pen below in this article.
Software / OS:
The new Phablet Galaxy Note 5 come loaded with the most recent Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS along with the company’s own Touchwiz UI on top of it. As we all know Samsung always brings some new unique features with every new Flagship, whether it is S series or Note. They carry the trend with Galaxy Note 5 as well, bring many new features in the OS as well as with S-Pen. We will bring you all those features in our Galaxy Note 5 Review very soon.
Design:
Galaxy Note 5 is same in hardware to its predecessor. It measures 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm weighing 171 grams. However, the rear panel is now changed to what we saw in Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge earlier this year. At the end, device is very comfortable to handle it in one hand.
Processing Power:
In terms of power, we can call Galaxy Note 5 a power house. Samsung has powered the device with 64-bit 2.1GHz Oocta-Core Exynos 7420 SoC with four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. That’s not all. It is accompanied by a huge 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. So far, only the recently launched OnePlus 2 has been seen with 4GB of RAM. Well, Note 5 seems to be more powerful because of its processors with such RAM. You must surprise if come across any lag on this device, ever.
Coming to the storage part, Samsung has launched Galaxy Note 5 with only 32GB and 64GB storage variant. This time, we have no option to expand the storage, because none of these variants carry MicroSD slot. They haven’t announced 128GB variant but we found 128GB variant listed on their official website. We will keep you updated about the same.
However, one better thing that came into view is Samsung has brought all new Storage standard called UFS 2.0. One unfortunate truth we found here is it doesn’t carries the USB Type-C connectivity.
Camera:
Samsung has always been known well for its camera innovation. In fact, there are one of the top few to provide amazing DSLR type camera features in smartphones. Continuing the trend, Galaxy Note 5 brings us a 16 Megapixel primary camera with f/1.9 aperture sensor, optical image stabilization, Auto Real-time HDR and lots more.A new feature added in this phablet is, you can launch the camera by just double tapping on the screen. Well, thats pretty fast ‘Quick Access’, isn’t it.
At the front facing we get a 5 Megapixel shooter. Well, it must be said Selfie Shooter. Coming to the quality, we will surely have amazing quality in Pictures. As per video, you can record upto 2160p videos. With Galaxy Note 5, you can also livestream Full HD 1080p videos on YouTube right away from your smartphone, without any third party application.
Connectivity & Battery:
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is the fastest device so far in WiFi connectivity. It supports 4G LTE Cat. 9 or Cat. 6 modems depending on the market. Apart from this, the phone supports Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/ A-GPS, and UFS 2.0. Another connectivity features included are NFC and MST which will be used for Samsung Pay. Also, as i mentioned above, there is no USB Type-C.
Coming to the battery, Galaxy Note 5 is powered with 3,000mAh battery with fast charging. This is non removable battery and support both wired and wireless charging. Samsung has also improved the speed of wireless charging this time. You can go from 0 to 100% in 120 minutes over wireless. That sounds much improved than previous and all other smartphones.
S-Pen:
As mentioned above, Samsung has enhanced and improved the S-Pen also. Unlike its predecessors where we need to pull it out, now it comes with one-click mechanism to eject it from body. The unique feature S-Pen carries with Note 5 is, you can now take notes without even unlocking the device. Just eject the S-Pen and start writing.
Another features of the pen include updated Air Command that brings up hovering icon for quick access. Another Scrolling feature lets you insert annotation or capture the screen.
Keyboard Covers & Accessories:
Samsung has also introduced all new Keyboard Cover for Note 5. This is very similar to the physical keyboards we see on Blackberry smartphones. Apart from this, they also launched Clear View Covers and fast Wireless Chargers.
Samsung Pay:
Samsung has also introduced Samsung Pay today that comes on board with Galaxy Note 5. It works on NFC or MST technology with wide range of financials. This will be first launched in US starting from next month, September. You can also authenticate it with improved fingerprint sensor.
Price:
As of now, only pricing for US has been announced. If you live in US, you can get Galaxy Note 5 for $739.99 (Rs. 48,300 approx) for 32GB variant, while the 64GB variant will cost $839.99 (Rs. 54,800 approx). Note, these prices are for AT&T with no commitment contract. As we said, 128GB variant is still unknown.
Colors and Availability:
Samsung has already started pre-order for Galaxy Note 5 from today itself. They will start shipping the phone a wekk later, from August 21st. Remember, the date is only for US market. Rest of the countries will start getting Galaxy Note 5 from September, probably. Galaxy Note 5 will be available in Black Sapphire and White Pearl color choices.
