Diablo 3 was an immediate hit when it came out back in 2012. Just like every other Diablo game, this one wasn’t being doubted even the slightest that it will be a masterpiece, and Blizzard managed to deliver just what everyone was expecting.
Almost eight years passed from the release of Diablo 3, and fans are impatiently waiting for a new game. Luckily, about two weeks ago, Blizzard delivered exactly what we wanted, a new announcement trailer for Diablo 4. The cinematics was absolutely mind-blowing and I think that fans finally got what they deserved after so many years of waiting.
However, until Diablo 4 gets released, there isn’t anything much that we can talk about it, so instead we are going to focus on the live version of the game that we have right now, which is Diablo 3. Let’s take a look at some of the things that you need to know about this game.
What is Diablo 3?
For those of you that are not very familiar with the genre of this title, let’s explain things a bit for you. Diablo is a game that’s categorized as a dungeon crawler hack-and-slash action RPG (role-playing game).
Yes, these words might be a bit confusing, but the game itself is not that complicated when you spend a few hours in it. Basically, the goal is to defeat the final boss, and if you want to be immersed in the story, you can do that as well, but most hardcore players only care about world records and being the best at the end of the season, so not so much of the story part there.
Diablo 3 is a very “hardcore” game
Some people think that this game is played mostly for fun, and although that’s true to some extent, most of the Diablo fan-base are people that play this game very religiously. Being the best in Diablo is something that happens to be a great competition in many countries worldwide. By being “The Best” we mean defeating the final boss with a world-record in terms of hours played after release, or being first in terms of gear score and all that at the end of each season.
For many new players, it might take weeks before they fully understand the mechanics of the game and how it should be played. However, for hardcore fans, it takes less than a day to finish the entire game that took more than ten years to make.
There are many different choices in the game
Diablo 3 is a game that offers you a few choices from the very moment you turn the game on. The first thing you’ll see is a character creation screen where you’ll have to select a class and then customize the appearance of your character, as well as think of a unique name for it. Although looks and name are both important, the hardest decision here would probably be the class-choosing one.
Every class in Diablo 3 offers a unique and completely different playstyle, so make sure to choose wisely because you will have to spend a lot of hours playing the game with this character. Also, there are tons of different “builds” for all the classes that you’ll have to think of yourself or try to find the most efficient ones from the internet. When Diablo 4 gets released, however, you won’t be able to find builds on the internet because people will have to think of them first, and this might take a while.
How optimized is this game?
Blizzard is a company that really focuses a lot on smooth experience, lag-free servers and updates that are not causing any major issues in the game itself. With all of this being said, you should be expecting a pretty smooth experience from Diablo 3, right? Well, that’s true to some extent.
As we already mentioned, there are many large boss battles in this game, and most of them are “flooding” your screen with different creatures casting all sorts of spells and particles flying around the map, which is more than enough to lower your frames per second by quite a lot. Luckily, this doesn’t happen quite often, and it is pretty normal for every video game of this kind to sometimes put you in a low-framerate situation. Nothing too serious.
How long will it take me to master the mechanics?
“Mastering” is a word that is taken very seriously in-game. Just like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of hardcore players in this game that have perfected every movement of each class, and it took them a lot of years and hours played in order to do this.
If you are a newer player, don’t expect to be unrealistically good without many hours of practice. What class should I play?
Choosing the class for your character is something that should be completely up to you. However, if you are completely new to Diablo, or video games in general, you’ll probably have no idea what the names of the classes mean when it comes to gameplay, so seeing the name “Monk” doesn’t really help you all that much.
Feel free to read a couple of guides or watch a few gameplay videos before you create the character. Make sure that you’re really “feeling” the class before you decide what to play because just as we said above, you’ll have to spend a lot of hours on that character.
